Director of Safety Services Daniel Trelka announces the Waterloo Police Department will begin the process of recruiting citizens who would be interested in joining the ranks of the Waterloo Police Department Reserve Unit.  The unit is staffed by highly trained and certified volunteers that serve our community.

Those persons who are interested must be a resident of Blackhawk County Iowa, be at least 21 years of age, possess a High School Diploma/G.E.D. and a valid Iowa Driver’s License with no suspensions or revocations in the previous three (3) years, must be a United States Citizen, be able to speak and read the English language and have no criminal history.

Applicants who pass the application and Interview process and a thorough background check are responsible for obtaining a physical examination at their own expense.

Recruit Reserve Officers will receive over 200 hours of local training as mandated by the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy and 160 hours of Field Training.

Once the process is complete the applicant will be sworn in as a Police Reserve Officer and possess police powers and authority while serving under the supervision of the Waterloo Police Department.

Informational meetings have been scheduled for July 22nd 2014 at 6:30 p.m. and /August 12th 2014 at 6:30 p.m., at the Waterloo Police Department Training Center at 349 North Elk Run Road. Those interested in applying are urged to attend one of these sessions.

Any person who meets the qualifications is welcome to apply.  To do so, a letter of Interest and Resume should be sent to Lieutenant Al Carrier (Reserve Unit Liaison) at the Waterloo Police Department, 715 Mulberry Street, Waterloo, Iowa 50703, no later than August 29th 2014 by 5:00 p.m.
