On Sunday, February 12, 2017 at about 1448hrs, a lone gunman entered the Kwik Star convenience store at 707 Broadway St and ordered everyone out of the store. Officers responding surrounded the store with the suspect still inside. Shortly after arrival the suspect exited the store firing his weapon. The officers on the scene returned fire and struck the suspect. The suspect sustained a non-life threatening wound. The suspect was taken into custody and then transported to Unity Point Allen Hospital for that injury.

The Division of Criminal Investigation was contacted and will be conducting the investigation into this incident per Waterloo Police Department guidelines. This case remains under investigation and no additional information will be released at this time.
