On Tuesday, August 29^th, 2017 at 3:55 PM, the Waterloo Police Department responded to a motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian at Ansborough Avenue and Shaulis Road. Upon arrival it was found that the pedestrian, Gregory Freshwater (age 27) who was out running, was struck by a vehicle driven by Daren Abbott of Dysart. The preliminary investigation indicates that Abbott was southbound on Ansborough Avenue approaching Shaulis and Freshwater was running east on Shaulis Rd and entered into the intersection in front of Abbott’s vehicle. Freshwater was transported to Covenant Medical Center by Waterloo Fire Rescue where he was later pronounced dead. Gregory Freshwater was a member of the Waterloo Fire Department.

This motor vehicle accident remains under investigation and no additional information is being released at this time.
