THREE SUSPECTS ARRESTED FOLLOWING VEHICLE PURSUIT

On July 16, 2011 at 11:45AM, the Waterloo Police Violent Crime Apprehension Team (VCAT) received information about subjects involved in an ongoing drug investigation. Waterloo Police attempted to stop a vehicle containing 3 suspects near the area of Kimball and Byron Ave. The driver of the vehicle failed to stop and lead police on a pursuit that ended when the suspect vehicle violated a red light at Martin Rd and Ansborough Ave and struck two other vehicles in traffic. All 3 suspects were taken into custody at that time.

Arrested were the following suspects:

Demetric Andre Washington Sr age 44- charged with Felony Eluding Police and Driving while License Revoked.

Demetric Andre Washington Jr. age 23- arrested for an outstanding warrant for Felony Theft (2nd Degree).

Leon Shears age 51- charged with Possession of a Firearm as a Felon, Possession with Intent to Deliver Marijuana, Drug Tax Stamp Violation and Carrying Weapons.

The Iowa State Patrol is investigating the motor vehicle crash that did result in some non-life threatening injuries.Sergeant Andrew Clark, Waterloo Police Department
