Driver Arrested

On Monday, June 13, 2011 at approximately 8:00 PM, Waterloo Police were sent to the intersection of Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive and Northeast Drive on report of a motor vehicle accident involving a car and a bicyclist.

The accident investigation found that the bicyclist was riding westbound on the bike path and the driver was southbound on Northeast Drive when the accident occurred.

The bicyclist, Lukas Meade Hensen, age 22 of Marion, IA was taken to Covenant Medical Center for treatment of head injuries.

The driver, Steven George Cummings, age 51, of Evansdale, IA, was not injured. Cummings was arrested for Operating a Motor Vehicle while under the Influence and Possession of Methamphetamine.

The accident remains under investigation.
