Copper Thief

On December 23, 2010 at approximately 1:08 AM, Waterloo Police Officers observed a suspicious vehicle parked behind some trees at East Central Iowa Cooperative, 1750 Broadway Avenue.

Officers searched the area and found that someone was trying to steal copper from the business. Officers followed footprints in the snow to the 2600 block of WCF&N Road. Officers continued to search the area and found a man hiding in a van at Plum's R&B Auto Repair, 2636 WCF&N Road.

Arrested was Lee Eldon Werner, age 42, of 1003 Kingsley Avenue, Waterloo, IA. He was charged with Theft in the 4th Degree, Possession of Burglary Tools, Criminal Mischief in the 2nd Degree, Interference with Official Acts and Criminal Trespass. Werner is currently being held in the Black Hawk County Jail on $8,600.00 bond.
