Waterloo Man Arrested In Connection With July 20th Shooting Incident
On July 20, 2009 shortly before 1:30 pm Waterloo Police officers responded to the area of Broadway and Conger Streets on a report of a shooting that had just occurred. Officers found 33-year-old Bernard Edwards was shot once in the abdomen. Edwards was taken to Allen Hospital for treatment and has since been released.
The suspect in this incident was identified as 23-year-old Tavares Detravaar Montgomery. Warrants were issued for his arrest charging him with willful injury, intimidation with a dangerous weapon and possession of a firearm as a felon.
During the course of the investigation Investigators developed information that Montgomery might be in the Madison, Wisconsin area.
On Tuesday, July 29, 2009 around 3 pm officers with the Badgerland Fugitive Task Force located and arrested Montgomery, without incident, in Madison, Wisconsin. The Badgerland Fugitive Task Force is comprised of officers from the Madison, Wisconsin Police Department, the U.S. Marshal's Service and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.
Tavares Montgomery is being held in the Dane County Jail in Madison, Wisconsin pending extradition to Waterloo.
