On Tuesday, September 22, 2009 around 11:30 am, Waterloo Police officers responded to the 200 block of lower Washington Street on the report of a man injured in a bicycle accident.

The man has been identified as 72-year-old Richard Paul Schommer of 402 1/2 Wellington Street in Waterloo.  Schommer died at the scene from severe head trauma.

A witness stated that Schommer rode his bicycle into a curb and was thrown from the bike and landed on the sidewalk.  Officers have determined that this was an accident and no foul play was involved.
