WPD & ME
Beginning next week, Officers of the Waterloo Police Department will present WPD & ME to area 8th graders in the Waterloo Community Schools. The goal of the program is to improve student-police relationships and allows the student a positive inside look into law enforcement.
Waterloo Police Officers will come to class and discuss their duties at the police department. These duties include Patrol, Citizen Response Unit, Investigations, Crime Lab, School Resource Officers, K9 Unit, Tactical Unit and the Domestic Abuse Response Team.
At the end of the 4-week program, each student is given a t-shirt as a reward and a reminder of the program. These shirts are made available through donations from the Waterloo Elks Club and the Waterloo Exchange Club.
Chief Thomas J. Jennings states: My officers enjoy presenting "WPD & ME" and the positive interaction they have with the students. This is a great program that is provided with help from the community. I would like to thank the Waterloo Community Schools, the Waterloo Elks Club and the Waterloo Exchange Club for helping us provide this program to our students.
Superintendent Gary Norris states: Our schools and our community benefit when our young people and police officers get to know each other in a positive, educational setting, and we appreciate the partnerships that make this happen.
