Waterloo Police Investigate Burglary/Robbery Incident

On Thursday, October 23, 2008 around 2:00 a.m., Waterloo Police Officers were sent to 1711 Forest Avenue in Waterloo on a report of a shooting that had just occurred.

During the course of the investigation the two victims told the officers that an unknown number of suspects broke into the residence and confronted them.  The suspects, who had their faces covered, demanded undisclosed property from the residence.  A struggle then ensued between one of the suspects and one of the victims and during this struggle the victim was shot in the arm.  The suspects then left the house with the property and fled the area.

The gunshot victim has been identified as 47-year-old Richard Kenneth Smith Jr., of 1711 Forest Avenue.  Waterloo Fire Rescue Paramedics transported Smith to Covenant Medical Center where he is listed in stable condition.

No further information is available at this time.  The investigation continues.
