Shooting Arrest

On June 1, 2023, at approximately 2:06 PM, consolidated dispatch took a report of shots being fired in the 700 blk of Willow Street in Waterloo.  Waterloo Patrol Officers arrived on scene and discovered several spent casings and that a vehicle had been struck multiple times.  On June 6, 2023, at approximately 5:34 AM, members of the Waterloo Police Departments Tactical Unit and Violent Crime Apprehension Team (VCAT) conducted a search warrant at 217 Normandy Street in Waterloo, Iowa.  During the search a 9mm handgun along with a high-capacity drum style magazine was located.  As a result, 18 yrs. old Taquan Barnes was taken into custody and charged with Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon (D felony), Felon in Possession of a Firearm, and Possession of Marijuana 2^nd Offense.

A Criminal Charge/Warrant is merely an accusation, and a defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
