On Wednesday, April 7, 2021 at approximately 12:45 AM, Blackhawk County dispatch received a report of a male with a long gun on Commercial St. walking towards downtown.  Two deputies with the Blackhawk County Sheriff’s Office arrived in the area and located the male on or near the 6th Street Bridge in Waterloo.  As they made contact with the male, the male pointed the weapon at the initial deputy at hip level and chased after the deputy.   A responding Water loo Police Officer observed what was occurring and fired at the male, striking him twice.  The male was taken to Allen Memorial Hospital for treatment for his injuries and later transported to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. The officer and deputies were uninjured.  

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation is investigating this incident.
