Patch

This press release is an update to the homicide on Pine View Place on May 15th 2021.

The Investigation revealed that Tanniaah Sharquette Spates (43 yrs. old) was at her apartment located at 3870 #101 Pine View Place. Witnesses report that at about 2300 hours Tony Lamaro Flowers (50 yrs. old) showed up at the apartment and shot Spates.   Spates was pronounced dead at the scene by Waterloo Fire Paramedics. Spates and Flowers have several children together and Spates had a protective order against Flowers for a recent domestic assault charge.

After Flowers shot Spates he fled the area in his vehicle. We received information that Flowers was planning on ending his life. After a few hours we received information that Flowers may be in the 2200 block of E. 4th Street. Officers arrived in the area and found Flowers’ vehicle sitting in the alley behind the 2200 block of E. 4th Street. As Officers were attempting to set up a perimeter they heard a muffled gunshot. Officers approached the vehicle and found Flowers sitting in the driver’s seat with a single self-inflicted gunshot wound to his head and the gun still in his hand. Waterloo Fire Paramedics arrived and pronounced Flowers dead at the scene.

There are no other suspects that we are looking to speak with. The autopsies are pending for both Spates and Flowers.

Lt. Robert Duncan
