Patch

Waterloo Iowa

The Waterloo Police Department has begun the transition to the Axon Suite of Products.   By June 29th 2021 every officer from every division and assignment will be issued an Axon Body 3 Body Camera.   Over the next two months we will continue to transition to the Axon Fleet of products.

The Waterloo Police Department has utilized body cameras since 2016 and was one of the first in the State to have department wide deployment.   Body worn cameras have proven to improve officer safety, capture valuable evidence and provide for increased transparency in police contacts.

A few of the features of the Axon Body 3 are:

  • 12 hour battery life
  • Videos upload remotely, not requiring officers to return to the station to upload video.
  • Axon Signal Technology triggers hands free camera activation based on configurable inputs, such as light bar activation, police vehicle door opening, or activation of a Taser (CEW) along with many other configurable events.
  • Equipped with GPS, body camera location can be monitored on a map improving our ability to locate officers who are not responding to a radio call and/or may be injured.
  • Live Streaming enables officers to livestream critical incidents in real-time from the field allowing personnel to view what is happening remotely.   During incidents such as an active shooter situation this allows for real-time viewing and notification of other emergency responders or other resources as needed.
  • Video Transcription to facilitate more efficient report writing.

Continued migration to the Axon Suite will include training and deployment of an upgraded Conducted Energy Weapon (CEW) and Axon Fleet 3, an in car recording system.
