On Tuesday, July 5, 2022 at approximately 12:06 PM, Waterloo Police Officers received a call to respond to Kwik Star located at 1717 E. San Marnan Dr. in reference to the report of an alleged assault. The information provided to dispatch was that a male punched a female in the face. Upon arrival, a WPD officer located the suspect driving away in a silver minivan. As the officer attempted to stop the van, the operator of the vehicle led them on short pursuit, before crashing into a wooded area in the 1400 blk of Oleson Road, and fleeing the vehicle on foot in to the woods.
Chief Fitzgerald was on scene, and stated, “As a result of tremendous cooperation and collaboration, Waterloo patrol officers and detectives continue to develop critical information leading to the apprehension of dangerous individuals. In this case, we apprehended Johnathan Williams (29 b/m) in the 1000 block of Langley; recovering three (3) stolen firearms from residential burglaries in Hiawatha and Cedar Rapids Iowa.”
Williams is being charged with the following violations: Assault, Eluding, Interference with Official Acts, Theft 3rd, and Felon in Possession of a firearm.
A Criminal Charge/Warrant is merely an accusation and a defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
