Patch

On Wednesday, October 14, 2008 Waterloo Police received a report of a suspicious male offering a ride to a Lou Henry Elementary School student.  The driver was reported to be a white male in his 50's or 60's, driving a green colored car.  The driver pulled up next to the student and offered her a ride home.  When the student declined the offer, the driver drove away.

This incident has justifiably caused much concern for parents in that area and throughout the community.   Waterloo Police have now identified the driver of the car as a staff member at Hoover Middle School and have determined that there was no criminal intent involved.  The driver initially thought the student was a Hoover Middle School student, who the staff member knew, and due to the fact that it was raining at the time, offered her a ride home.  The driver realized his mistake when the girl turned to decline his offer, and at that point he continued on his way.

The staff member came forward on his own after seeing reports of the suspicious activity and realizing the reports were likely referring to him.

The Waterloo Police Department considers this case closed.
