On March 30, 2009 at approximately 12:30 A.M., Waterloo Police responded to the 1300 block of West 2nd Street on a report that a pizza delivery driver had just been robbed at gunpoint. The driver attempted to make a delivery to 1310 W. 2nd when he was approached by four to five black males. One pointed a handgun at him and demanded the pizzas, cash and his cell phone. After handing over the food items and cash, a struggle ensued over the cell phone and handgun. During the struggle, the driver was struck on the side of the face. The suspects fled when the handgun broke. The pieces of the weapon left behind showed it to be a toy. Residents at 1310 W. 2nd were asleep at the time of the incident and did not place the order.
The driver was not seriously injured. The suspects were described as black males in their early to mid-twenties. The suspect with the toy gun was described as clean shaven with short hair and wearing a black puffy winter coat with fur around the hood and waistline. He was also believed to be wearing blue jeans. A second suspect was wearing a blue bandanna and hoodie and was shorter and heavier than the first.
The incident remains under investigation.
