Patch

During the week of May 4, 2009 Waterloo Police Department officers will participate in Operation Midway, a Governor's Traffic Safety Bureau funded traffic enforcement project.  Officers will "Take The Fight To The Night" by concentrating their efforts between the hours of 4:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m.

The main goal of this project is to lower serious injury and fatality crashes by utilizing officers during the night time hours where three major contributors to these crashes are alcohol, high speeds and low seat belt usage.

Vehicle crash data collected from 2003 through 2007 revealed 13,303 crashes occurred in Black Hawk County resulting in 70 fatalities.  The average cost per Black Hawk County household came to $11,000.00, which demonstrates that everyone pays for unsafe drivers and crashes.

The Waterloo Police Department encourages motorists not to drink and drive, to buckle up and pay attention to your speed.
