On Monday, August 24, 2009 the Waterloo Police Department investigated three robberies that occurred over the span of about nine hours.
The first robbery happened shortly after 6 am at the Clark Station convenience store at 1008 LaPorte Road. A white male in his thirties entered the store with his hand in his coat pocket indicating that he had a gun. The suspect then demanded money and the clerk handed over an undisclosed amount of cash. The suspect then ran from the scene and has not been located. The clerk was not injured during this incident.
The second robbery happened around 2:30 pm at the Loan Max Store at 3200 University Avenue. A black male in his twenties entered the store with his hand behind his back indicating that he had a gun. The suspect handed the clerk a note demanding money, but there wasn't any cash on hand in the store at that time. The suspect then ran from the store and has not been located. The clerk was not injured during this incident.
The third robbery happened shortly after 3 pm at the Metro Laundry at 914 West 5th Street. A white male in his thirties entered the store and after several minutes approached the clerk and demanded money. No weapon was displayed nor did he indicate that he had a weapon. The clerk gave the suspect an undisclosed amount of cash and the suspect ran from the store. The clerk was not injured during this incident and the suspect has not been located.
Officers continue to investigate these incidents and no determination has been made as to whether any of them are connected. No other information is available at this time.
