On January 16, 2010 at approximately 4:40PM, Waterloo Police and Fire Department units were dispatched to the 700 block of Independence Ave regarding a motor vehicle crash involving injuries. On arrival it was discovered that a Westbound 1987 Chevrolet truck had crossed the centerline of the roadway and struck the concrete support column of the railway overpass located there. The driver of the vehicle, who was also the sole occupant, was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident remains under investigation and the name of the victim is not being released at this time pending notification of family members.
