On Saturday, January 16, 2010, at approximately 4:40 P.M., Waterloo Police officers investigated a single vehicle fatal traffic accident that occurred in the 700 block of Independence Avenue.  The driver of the vehicle, identified as 58 year old Wilbert Dean Petersen, of Waterloo, was traveling westbound on Independence Avenue when his vehicle left the roadway and struck a concrete post. Mr. Petersen, the sole occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene.

This is an ongoing investigation and no additional information will be released at this time.
