Waterloo Police Department Citizen’s
Police Academy 2011

The Waterloo Police Department is pleased to announce an upcoming Citizen’s Police Academy.  Any Citizen in the Waterloo area is welcome and encouraged to participate in this inside look into the Waterloo Police Department.

The purpose of this Academy is to foster better communication between citizens and the Waterloo Police Department through education.  The goal for the Citizen’s Academy is to establish a better understanding of the practices and procedures of the Waterloo Police Department and to create a partnership with the community it serves.  All academy graduates are encouraged to share their experience and knowledge they receive regarding the Waterloo Police Department with other citizens as the opportunity arises.

Course Description

The academy will consist of 8 weeks of classes spread over a four- month time frame.  Each class will be 3 hours in length and will cover all aspects of policing as it pertains to the City of Waterloo.  The classes will start January 19, 2011 and continue every other week, culminating in a graduation day on April 20, 2011.  Waterloo Police Officers who hold a certification in the given course they will be teaching will teach all academy classes.

Who May Attend

Any citizen 21 years of age or older and any member of Waterloo’s many neighborhood associations with a desire to strengthen communication between our citizens and the Waterloo Police Department is encouraged to attend.  Due to the nature of material being covered there will be a criminal background investigation completed on each applicant.  Class size will be limited to 20 students.

Application Process

Citizens will be able to obtain an application from the Waterloo Police Department at 715 Mulberry Street.  Applications will also be available at the many neighborhood association meetings throughout the City.  Applications must be turned in by January 3, 2011.  You will be notified by mail of your acceptance to the academy.

This academy will prove to be an exciting and interesting view into the workings of the Waterloo Police Department.  The topics covered will be current and very informative leaving you wanting more each night.  This will give you a closer look into to the Police Department that serves this community every day.  Space for this course is limited so get your application in today.
