Waterloo Patrol Officers took eighteen-year-old Katario Cordon Jones of Waterloo into custody on Felony arrest warrants today. Jones was identified as the offender who assaulted Waterloo Officer Ed Savage during the early morning hours on January 1, 2013. On that date, Officers responded to a large fight at Edo's Bar in the 100 block of E. 11th St. Officers encountered numerous fights occurring upon arrival. Shortly after entering the bar, Officer Savage was intentionally struck in the head with a bar stool causing him injury. Officer Savage was treated at the hospital and released.
Officers were unable to determine the suspect during the time the incident occurred. Officers later examined surveillance video from the bar and identified the suspect as Katario Jones during the investigation. Arrest warrants were obtained for Assault on a Peace Officer Causing Injury (Class D Felony), Willful Injury (Class C Felony) and rioting (aggravated misdemeanor). Jones is currently being held at the Black Hawk County Jail on a $36,000 bond.
