The Governor's Highway Traffic Safety Conference was held in Altoona, Iowa March 19-20. The Governor's highway traffic safety's mission is to identify traffic safety problems and thereon develop and implement traffic safety programs designed to reduce death and injury on Iowa's streets and highways through partnerships local, county, state, and private sector agencies. This is done through training and funding provided by the Governor's Traffic Safety Bureau (GTSB).
Several officers from the Waterloo Police Department attended the conference. Waterloo Police Officer Brad Walter was recognized at the conference for his outstanding performance as a drug recognition officer and his continued dedication to removing drug impaired drivers from Iowa roadways. Not only does Officer Walter continually strive to identify and apprehend impaired drivers, he is involved in the training of other law enforcement officers to help them develop their skill in the apprehension of impaired drivers.
Officer Walter has been a member of the Waterloo Police Department since 2002. His is also one of the police department's motorcycle officers.
