On Friday, March 29, 2013 at approximately 10:34 AM, Waterloo Police and Waterloo Fire Rescue were dispatched to 914 Wellington Street on report of a house fire.
Officers Shawn Bram and Dustin Lindaman were the first responders at the scene. They spoke with a woman who was coming out of the house and learned there were still five children inside the house.
The children ranged in ages from 4 to 11.
Without regard for their own personal safety, the officers entered the house. They checked the rooms, sometimes having to crawl on the floor, because of the smoke inside the house. A couple of children were found asleep in a bed. All of the children were able to get out of the house safely.
Because of their quick and heroic actions, both Officers have been nominated for the Waterloo Police Department Medal of Valor.
Officer Bram, age 38, is an 11 year veteran of the Waterloo PD. Officer Lindaman, age 33, is an 8 year veteran of the Waterloo PD.
