On Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at approximately 8:26 AM, Waterloo Police responded to a motor vehicle accident at Ansborough Avenue and the off-ramp of Highway 218. Officers found that a semi-tractor/trailer was eastbound on the off-ramp traveling through the intersection when a van that was northbound on Ansborough Avenue ran the red light and collided with the semi-tractor/trailer.

The driver of the van, John Edward McDonald, age 80, of Waverly, Iowa was taken to Allen Hospital where he later died from his injuries. The semi driver, Dean Lee Wordes, age 61, of Allison, Iowa, was treated and released from Allen Hospital.

Accident remains under investigation.
