On Wednesday July 24, 2013 Officers with the Waterloo Police Department’s Violent Crime Apprehension Team (VCAT) conducted a traffic stop in the area of W. 9th St. and E. Mitchell Ave. reference a weapons and drug investigation. During the traffic stop Officers took twenty-seven-year-old Demetrice De’Angelo Tompkins of Waterloo and twenty-two-year-old Adriana Shereen Hanson of Waterloo into custody. A three-year-old child was also located inside the vehicle.
During the traffic stop Officers seized a quantity of marijuana, prescription drugs, money, and other items used in the sale and distribution of drugs. Officers also seized a stolen .45 caliber semi-auto handgun, a .22 caliber rifle and ammunition. VCAT Officers and Tri-County Drug Investigators also conducted a search warrant at 1107 W. Mullan Ave. in Waterloo.
Tompkins was charged with possession with intent to deliver marijuana, drug tax stamp violation, possession with intent to deliver a scheduled controlled substance, carrying weapons and child endangerment. Hanson was charged with possession with intent to deliver marijuana, drug tax stamp violation, possession with intent to deliver a scheduled controlled substance, carrying weapons and Driving While License Suspended. Both suspects were booked into the Black Hawk County Jail.
