Waterloo Police Department responded to a motor vehicle accident in the 5800 block of Washington Street (Hwy 218), near Orange Road, on November 15^th, 2014 at 2:45 P.M.

Upon arrival it was found that two vehicles had collided as a result of the icy road conditions.

During the investigation it was determined that a vehicle being driven by Paul J. Bader, age 89, of La Porte City was northbound on Hwy 218 when he lost control of his pickup truck and crossed the centerline striking a southbound vehicle being driven by James P. Coontz, age 66, of La Porte City. Both drivers and one passenger in the Coontz vehicle were transported to Covenant Medical Center.

Upon arrival at the hospital it was determined that Paul J. Bader had internal injuries and was taken to surgery. On November 16^th, 2014 Bader died from those injuries.
