On December 6, 2014 Officers of the Waterloo Police Department were dispatched to the area of 508 Broadway reference a report of shots being fired.  A short time later Orintheo Campbell Jr, age 23, arrived at Allen Emergency Room in a private vehicle with injuries from being shot where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy was performed at the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Ankeny and it was determined that Campbell died from multiple gunshot wounds.

As result of the investigation the Waterloo Police Department obtained an arrest warrant for James Robert Ernst II, age 25, of Cedar Rapids, for Murder in the 1st degree with a bond of $1,000,000.00.
