On February 23rd, 2015 at 2258hrs, the Waterloo Police Department responded to 518 Rhey Street on a report of shooting that just occurred and the suspects had fled the area. At the residence it was found that the victim, Demarcus Green (age 25), had a bullet wound to his right shoulder from a 22 caliber handgun. Green was transported to Allen Hospital by Waterloo Fire Rescue for treatment.
On March 2nd, 2015 at 0036hrs, a traffic stop was made at the intersection of W. 2nd and Western Street by Waterloo Police Officers. During the traffic stop a 22 caliber handgun was located inside the car. The vehicle was occupied by Chorion D. Smith (age 18) and Trevell D. Bruce (age 22).
As a result of the traffic stop and the follow up investigation both were identified as suspects in the shooting of Demarcus Green at 518 Rhey Street on February 23rd. The handgun that was recovered was the weapon used during the shooting.
The suspects were charged in Black Hawk County District Court on the charges listed below:
Trevell D. Bruce; Being a prior felon was charged with Possession of a Firearm as a Felon.
Choroin D. Smith; was charged with Carrying Weapons, Willful Injury- Causing Serious Injury and Going Armed with Intent.
