Longtime Waterloo PD K9 To Retire

After nearly 10 years of service on the streets of Waterloo, WPD K9 Unit’s oldest K9 will soon retire. K9 Robby is a Belgian Malinois, born in Holland, that has been working in Waterloo since 2006. With nearly 10 years of service alongside his partner Sgt. Gus Farmer, K9 Robby is the longest serving K9 the Waterloo Police Department has had.

After surviving a 3 story fall in 2007, which was sustained while searching a building for a burglary suspect, K9 Robby made a miraculous recovery following the near fatal fall. During his career, K9 Robby has been involved in the seizure of hundreds of pounds of illegal narcotics worth well over $1.5 million dollars and thousands of dollars in US Currency that were the proceeds of illegal narcotics sales. The larger seizures K9 Robby has been involved in were the location of 12 lbs. of ICE methamphetamine and over 100 lbs. of marijuana. Along with the successful career of narcotics seizures, K9 Robby has also been involved in the apprehension of numerous suspects that were fleeing from, or hiding from Police, taking his overall total of arrests well into the hundreds.

Moving forward, the Waterloo Police Department is now beginning the process of raising the funds to purchase a K9 to replace K9 Robby. The Waterloo Police Department’s K9 Unit functions on donations, and all donations made are tax deductible. For further information on the K9 Unit, or if you are interested in making a donation to the K9 Unit, please contact Sgt. Gus Farmer at This email address is being protected from spambots.
