In 2014 the Waterloo Police Protective Association (WPPA) started a Community Outreach Program called “Cops, Kids and Christmas” shopping event to help build positive relationships between Police Officers and Kids in our community. Each year WPPA members (Police Officers) volunteer their time and meet with kids previously selected for this program. Each kid is paired with an Officer to accompany them in shopping for Christmas gifts for them and their families.
This year we are excited to announce a new partnership between the WPPA and US Bank. On Friday October 21, 2016 Dan Watters, Division Head of Community Banking with US Bank, presented the WPPA with a $7,500 check to ensure this program continues and expands for years to come. US Bank appreciates and recognizes the hard work our Police Officers do each and every day. They also realize the importance of the community and the Police working together to make Waterloo a better place.
Due in part to the very generous donation by US Bank and other key donations, the WPPA is proud to announce we are going to be able include more kids in our annual “Cops, Kids and Christmas” event and expand this program to include a Back to School shopping event.
This Community Outreach Program will now be called “Cops and Kids”. The program will include the Christmas shopping event, the Back to School shopping event and future events created to help build positive relationships between local youth and the Waterloo Police Department.
