For several months the Waterloo Police Protective Association (WPPA) and Waterloo Police Chief Dan Trelka have been working with the Waterloo Community Foundation to form the “Waterloo Police Foundation”. We are excited to announce the Waterloo Police Foundation is now ready to assist the Waterloo Police Department in enhancing the trust and building positive relationships with the community. The mission of the Waterloo Police Foundation will be to use innovative community based outreach programs to help build positive relationships between the police and the community. The Waterloo Police Foundation will have a special focus on youth outreach programs.
The Waterloo Police Foundation in partnership with the Waterloo Community Foundation will serve as a vehicle for tax-exempt gifts and grants from individuals, businesses, and philanthropies. The Police Foundation will work closely with the Police Chief and the WPPA to develop a strategic program agenda. The Police Foundation will encourage and support the Waterloo Police Department with several Youth and Community outreach programs:
- “Cops and Kids” program-Christmas shopping event and back to school shopping
- Waterloo Police Department Employee of the Month
- Situational community policing efforts initiated by Waterloo police officers.
- And other outreach programs created in the future.
It takes the support of everyone to allow the Waterloo Police Department to build positive relationships and strengthen our community.
