On Wednesday, May 3rd 2017 at 6:30 P.M. the Waterloo Police Department responded to shots fired at the Lincoln and Conger Streets. A shooting victim, Ornandes Bennett (age 37) of Waterloo, was found at that location with a life threatening gunshot wound to his abdomen. Bennett was transported to Unity Point Allen Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery for internal injuries. Bennett is currently stable, but in critical condition.

During the investigation a suspect was developed and located at a Cedar Falls address. With assistance from Cedar Falls Police Department MERT team a search warrant was executed at that residence. The suspect, Rajih Donley (age 29) of Cedar Falls, was taken into custody and firearms were recovered.

Rajih Donley was charged in Black Hawk County District Court with Willful injury, Going Armed with Intent, Carrying Weapons, Intimidation with a Weapon, and two counts of Felon in Possession of a Weapon.

This is an ongoing investigation and no additional information is being released at this time.
