On Wednesday, November 22nd, 2017 at approximately 4:47 AM Officers of the Waterloo Police Department attempted to stop a vehicle for speeding (67 mph in a 45 mph zone). The vehicle failed to stop for marked police vehicles and led officers on a pursuit throughout portions of Waterloo and Black Hawk County.
As the vehicle traveled on Cedar Bend a Waterloo Police Officer and Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Deputy were out of their vehicles attempting to utilize stop sticks to assist in stopping the pursuit. The fleeing vehicle drove across a grassy area off of the road and continued to flee. As the vehicle crossed the grassy area near the Sheriff’s Deputy, the Deputy fired his service weapon in the direction of the fleeing vehicle.
The vehicle continued to flee officers for approximately 10 more minutes until the vehicle stopped in the 100 blk of Allen, Waterloo. The driver, Eric J. Norelius was taken into custody on a variety of charges. He was transported to the Waterloo Police Department and later to the Black Hawk County Jail.
The incident is currently under investigation by the Waterloo Police Department and Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Office and no further information will be released at this time.
