On May 31st, 2018 Waterloo Police were dispatched to the alley off of the 1200 block of W. Washington, where they found Shavondes Martin had died from gunshot wounds.   On November 13th, 2018 Danaesha L. Martin was arrested in Virginia on a warrant for 1st Degree Murder in connection with the death of Shavondes Martin.     

On January 14, 2019 the Waterloo Police charged Raymond D. Birden, age 20 with 1st Degree Murder in connection with the Death of Shavondes S. Martin.    Raymond D. Birden has been in the Black Hawk County Jail since October 10th, 2018 on weapons charges.  

Both Danaesha L. Martin and Raymond D. Birden remain in the custody of the Black Hawk County Jail.

The investigation into this case is ongoing and no further information will be released at this time.   Anyone with information regarding this or any other case is asked to contact the Waterloo Police Department.

A criminal charge is merely an accusation and a defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
