Patch

On Sunday, March 10, 2019, at approximately 0818 AM, Officers were dispatched to the area of Courtland Street and Vinton Street, Waterloo, for an unresponsive male lying face down on the sidewalk.  Waterloo Police and Waterloo Fire Rescue responded to the scene and found the subject to be deceased.   Through the investigation into this matter the deceased was determined to be 16 year old Tayshaun Jenkins of Waterloo.

An autopsy was completed on March 11th, 2019 and the results were inconclusive pending further laboratory testing.    Through the investigation Officers spoke with witnesses and found that Jenkins was likely the victim of a hit and run accident.

On March 12, 2019 at approximately 3:15 PM  Brandon D. Gordon, age 22, came to the police station and was charged with leaving the scene of a personal injury/fatality accident, and taken to the Black Hawk County Jail, where he will be held on $15,000 cash bond.

The public was instrumental throughout this investigation and we would like to thank them for their help.   This remains an ongoing investigation as we continue to follow investigatory leads and conduct interviews.  If anyone has additional information please contact law enforcement.

A criminal charge is merely an accusation and a defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty
