On July 23, 2019 at approximately 3:51 PM, Waterloo Police and Waterloo Fire Rescue responded to the intersection of Western Avenue and W. 3rd Street on a report of a bicyclist being hit by a motor vehicle.  Upon their arrival they found the vehicle had left the scene of the accident.   The bicyclist, Dilail Salkic age 22 of Waterloo, was injured and remained at the scene.   Waterloo Fire Rescue transported Salkic to Mercy One for treatment.    Officers were able to locate the vehicle involved and through the investigation into this matter arrested LA Jefferson, age 42 of Waterloo.   Jefferson is charged with leaving the scene of a serious injury accident, aggravated misdemeanor.   On 7/24/19 Waterloo Police were notified that Salkic had passed away, and an autopsy will be scheduled with the Iowa State Medical Examiners Office. 

A criminal charge is merely an accusation and a defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
