On August 5th, 2019 at approximately 1938 hrs Waterloo Police Officers were dispatched to the CVS at 205 Franklin St. on a report of a weapons violation. The reporting party stated a Mechak Brinkley arrived at the CVS and threatened employees with a handgun. Brinkley allegedly threatened to rob the reporting party and the business while flashing a handgun that was tucked in his waistband.
Brinkley left the CVS in a vehicle and was quickly located in the area of W. 9th St. and Randolph St. by Officers assigned to the Violent Crime Apprehension Team (VCAT). VCAT Officers detained Brinkley in the front yard of 1026 Randolph St. and soon located a loaded .45 GAP Glock handgun in his possession. Brinkley is a convicted felon for a previous Forgery conviction.
Brinkley was placed under arrest and transported to the BHCJ to be booked. Brinkley, 23, was charged with Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Carrying Weapons, and Interference w/ Official Acts While Armed with a Firearm.
A second suspect, Darsjon Tarbor, 27, was also located in the vehicle with Brinkley. Tarbor was placed under arrest for multiple outstanding warrants (Driving While Barred, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Escape, Theft 5th Degree, Public Intoxication, and Interference with Official Acts) as well as a new charge of Possession of a Controlled Substance.
