On Wednesday, December 4th, 2019 at 1:43 PM Waterloo Police responded to a report of a male causing a disturbance at the Walnut Court Apartments, 315 Walnut Street, Water loo.   The male was identified as Greg I Nelson age 70.   Nelson lived in the building, when police arrived he had returned to his apartment.   Officers attempted to make contact with Nelson and they heard shots from inside his apartment.   Officers secured the area and continued to try to speak with Nelson.  He refused to respond to any of their orders.   The Waterloo Police Tactical Unit was activated to assist with this incident.   Throughout the incident Nelson continued to fire a weapon from inside the apartment which required police to clear the surrounding area and place several businesses on lockdown.    Tactical Unit Officers were able to gain entry into the apartment and secure Nelson.    Waterloo Fire Rescue transported Nelson to the hospital where he was treated and released to Waterloo Police.  Nelson was charged with Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon (two counts), Felon in Possession of a Firearm, and Assault on Peace Officers with a Weapon.

 

A Criminal Charge is merely an accusation and a defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
