On Thursday, August 20, 2020 at 6:15 AM Waterloo Police were dispatched to the report of a motor vehicle accident in the area of Sergeant Road and Greyhound Drive.   As police were responding to this call they were told that the driver who crashed his vehicle is now in a tanker truck heading east on Ridgeway Avenue at a high rate of speed.   Officers began to look for the vehicle and saw it near the intersection of Kimball and Ridgeway.   Officers turned to catch up with the vehicle and as the officer regained sight of the vehicle it had crashed into the residence located near the intersection of Hammond and Ridgeway.   The tanker truck had overturned causing a large fuel spill.  

Waterloo Police and Waterloo Fire Rescue worked to secure the driver who is currently being treated at a local hospital.   Through the investigation into this matter we were able to deter mine that the tanker truck had struck one other vehicle prior to crashing into the residence, causing minor to injuries to the driver of this vehicle.  

This incident remains under investigation by the Waterloo Police Department, Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa Department of Motor Vehicle Enforcement, Iowa State Patrol and Waterloo Fire Rescue.
