On 8-20-20 at 6:15 AM Waterloo Police were dispatched to 2100 block of West Ridgeway Ave on a motor vehicle accident with the subject acting erratically. As officers responded to the area they were told that the subject had just stolen a semi tanker truck full of fuel and was headed east on Ridgeway Avenue from Highway 63.
Responding Officers checked the area for the truck and located it in the area of Ridgeway and Kimball Ave. Officers observed the truck strike a vehicle in traffic near Hammond and Ridgeway. The truck then appeared to lose control, strike 3 additional vehicles, flipped on its side and crashed into a house located at 1420 E. Ridgeway Avenue, casing a substantial fuel spill. The driver of the truck was extracted from the vehicle, transported via ambulance for treatment. He was identified as Dakota D Luck age 25. Luck remained in the hospital until he was discharged on 8/31/2020.
Upon being discharged Luck was arrested on warrants for Theft in the 1st Degree, Simulated Explosive Violation, Possession of Marijuana, Drug Paraphernalia, Reckless Driving, and other traffic related charges. This incident remains under investigation.
A Criminal Charge is merely an accusation and a defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
