On September 24, 2020 Officers assigned to the Violent Crime Apprehension Team (VCAT) and the Tactical Unit executed a search warrant at 2026 Plain View St. reference an ongoing weapons investigation involving Devonte David Wright, 19, of Water loo. Devonte Wright also had a valid parole violation warrant out of Polk County, IA.
During the search Officers located three handguns, ammunition, and marijuana. One of the handguns, a Springfield .45 Auto, was discovered to be stolen from a Waterloo residential burglary in August 2020. Devonte Wright and his father, David Wright Sr., also of Waterloo, were both residing at the residence. Both are prohibited from possessing firearms due to prior felony and weapons convictions.
Devonte Wright was charged with three (3) counts of Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Theft 4th (stolen firearm), and Possession of a Controlled Substance. His father, David Wright Sr., was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd Offense. Both were placed under arrest and transported to the Black Hawk County Jail.
A criminal charge is merely an accusation and a defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty
