On Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at 03:23 A.M. a Waterloo Police Officer was on patrol in the area of Colorado and Arizona when a vehicle that was driving reckless attempted to strike the officer’s patrol car. The officer attempted to stop this vehicle and a pursuit ensued lasting several minutes. Back up officers were eventually able to get the vehicle to stop and officers were verbally trying to get the male to exit the vehicle. The driver then accelerated into an occupied patrol vehicle striking it head on. As a result the suspect was shot by a Waterloo Police Officer. The suspect, a 42 year old white male, died from his wounds. The Division of Criminal Investigation was contacted per department protocol and has taken over the investigation. The Officer involved has been placed on critical incident leave pending the completion of the investigation by the DCI.
