Shortly before 1:00 PM today, Friday, February 5, 2010, Waterloo Police Officers were sent to Covenant Medical Center located at 3421 W.9th Street on a report of an out of control female assaulting people in the Pediatrics Department.

On arrival Officers learned Danae Raquel Nelson, of Waterloo, was at Covenant to visit her child who was being treated. Nelson became upset when she was denied access after she refused to don a required medical mask for contamination purposes. Nelson then forced her way into the patient room where she assaulted several people in the room including her husband, a DHS worker and Covenant personnel. Nelson also used a butane lighter during the incident and attempted to set fire to the clothing of a Covenant Medical Center employee.

Danae Raquel Nelson was taken into custody and charged with Reckless Use of Fire, Child Endangerment, Assault Domestic Abuse and two counts of Assault on Persons engaged in Certain Occupations. Nelson is currently in custody at the Black Hawk County Jail.  Photo shown below.
