On Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at approximately 8:15 PM, Waterloo Police were dispatched to the 200 block of Baltimore on a report of traffic accident, including injuries to a small child in a stroller. Officers arrived and found that a vehicle had driven over the curb and struck a one-year-old baby in a stroller. Waterloo Fire Rescue took the baby to Covenant Medical Center where he was admitted for observation.
During the investigation into this accident, Officers found that the driver had intentionally driven over the curb several times before striking the baby. The driver had been in a physical altercation with several people before getting into her car and driving at them. After striking the baby, the driver drove away from the scene.
A locate was placed on the driver and the vehicle. The driver later came to the Police Department. The driver, Tiffany Patrice Sykes, age 22, of 1622 Heath Street, Waterloo, was arrested and charged with Going Armed with Intent, Failure to Leave Info and Aid at a Personal Injury Accident, Reckless Driving and Driving While License Suspended.
