Rarity in Arrests

From a time period that began on Monday evening, October 25, and ended on Wednesday morning, October 27, the Waterloo Police Department went more than 24 hours without arresting a single individual. Several employees have worked for the police department for more than 3 decades and cannot recall a single time that this has occurred. This was not due to a lack of effort on behalf of the officers. The police department employees were ever vigilant in their protection of the community and the officers were engaged in numerous proactive activities in that time frame. We attribute this event to the collaboration between our involved community partners and law enforcement to enhance the quality of life in our neighborhoods. This event validates our statistics that indicate the crime rate in Waterloo is declining.

Chief of Police Daniel J. Trelka
