Waterloo Police Officer Involved In Shooting Incident

On Saturday, September 12, 2009, at 2:18 am Waterloo Police officers were sent to 611 Keystone Street on the report of a domestic dispute between a male and a female.

Shortly after the officers arrived a struggle ensued between the male subject and the two officers.

During the struggle the officers used a number of control techniques that were ineffective.  The male then began to overpower one of the officers and the officer managed to draw his duty pistol and shoot the male in the chest.  The male died at the scene.

The officer was taken to Allen Hospital where he is being treated for his injuries.  The second officer was not injured.

Per Waterloo Police Department policy, the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation has been called in to investigate this incident.

Neither the male's name nor the officer's names will be released at this time.

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation will release further information when it is available.
