On Friday December 18, 2014 Officers with the Waterloo Police Department's Violent Crime Apprehension Team took twenty-one-year-old Tahjaveus Redding and sixteen-year-old Charvis Bently Jr. into custody after a shot was fired in the 700 block of E. Mullan Ave. Around 8:45pm Officers were on patrol in the 700 block of Logan Ave. when they observed a shot fired in the immediate vicinity. At that time they observed Redding and Bentley on the pedestrian bridge traveling across E. Mullan Ave. Officers observed the suspects traveling toward Wendell Ct. and Webster St. Officers attempted to make contact with the suspects who immediately fled. Officers pursued the suspects on foot and eventually appreheneded them. Officers also engaged in a struggle with Redding who physically resisted efforts to get him into handcuffs.
During the incident Officers located the a loaded .40 caliber High-Point semi-auto handgun along the path where Bentley fled. Officers also located a spent shell casing in the exact area where Bently and Redding had been observed by Officers when the shooting occurred. Bentley was charged with an aggravated misdemeanor for carrying weapons and a class d felony for interference with official acts involving a firearm. Redding was charged with two counts of interference with official acts. Both subjects were booked into the Black Hawk County Jail.
