Patch

On August 16, 2020 around 9:05 PM, Waterloo Police were dispatch to a report of a Hispanic male (later identified as Gonzalez E. Cano age 25) attempting to abducted a juvenile male in the area of Idaho Street and Independence Avenue.   Officers were advised that several citizens were intervening in this incident, attempting to, and eventually freeing the child from the male.

As officers arrived they found Cano in a vehicle preparing to leave.   Officers attempted to detain Cano, he resisted their efforts, resulting in minor injuries to two officers.

Through the investigation into this matter police learned that Cano was attempting to remove a 10 year old male from the area, claiming that the child was his little brother and he was taking the child home.   The child was no relation to Cano, and did not know Cano.

Cano was charged with Assault on Peace Officers, Interference with Official Acts/Injury and False Imprisonment, he is currenlty in the Black Hawk County Jail.

A Criminal Charge is merely an accusation and a defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
